Buses: Tenerife

Taking the bus in Tenerife is a great idea if you are a little adventurous or like to enjoy the view of the Island from public transport whilst somebody else does the driving.

There is some great scenery to enjoy and the buses are in good condition and comfortable to travel on.

The bus service is run by Titsa and offers an excellent frequent service which will get you to most parts of the island at a reasonable price.  There are approximately 3,700 bus stops and they operate 365 days of the year.

Titsa have information desks at the main bus stations which are very informative and have all the information you need to plan your trip, together with maps of the island showing the different routes available.  You can also purchase travel cards here.

By visiting their website you can download a bus route map beforehand to enable you to plan your journey and see how much your fare will cost.

The TITSA website is user friendly and the tourist interactive maps are a great idea and readable in English too.

Discounted Bus Fares Tenerife

You can purchase a pre-paid Bonus Bus ticket (Bono Card), which give a discounted fare on the green Titsa buses.

The Bono Card costs either €15 or €25 and is a good idea if you are planning on using the bus service whilst you stay on the island and can give you a discount of up to 50% on some journeys.  The longer the journey, the bigger the discount.

You can buy just one ticket which can be used by more than one person and the card is debited for each passenger and the amount of the journey each time it is inserted in the card machine.  If you don’t have enough credit left on your card the balance can be paid in cash to the driver.  The Bono Card may also be used on the trams in Santa Cruz.

You can buy a Bono Card from the bus stations, kiosks and some shops on the island which display the Bono Card sign but you won’t be able to buy one when you get on the bus so make sure you purchase the Card before you start your journey.  If you don’t have a Bono Card you can always pay in cash to the driver.

Buses run regularly from the resorts in the south of the island all the way up to the north of the island.

There is a good bus service from Tenerife South Airport to the major holiday resorts which you can take from outside the main arrivals hall.

Bus Wheelchair Access Tenerife

Although there is wheelchair access on some of the buses on the island this is limited and you will need to check before you travel if the bus can accommodate a wheelchair and is suitably adapted.
