Tenerife has a good bus network, which is operated by Titsa. The bus routes cover large parts of the island and include all the main tourist destinations.

All You Need to Know about Buses in Tenerife

Is it easy to get around Tenerife by bus?

The Titsa buses are in good condition and comfortable to travel on. Most services run frequently and are reasonably priced. There are approximately 3,700 bus stops across the island and buses operate on 365 days of the year.

How do I pay for the bus in Tenerife?

On the bus

If you only need a single ticket, your best option is to purchase your ticket directly from the bus driver. You can pay for your bus ticket

  • In cash. Bus drivers may not be able to give change for banknotes larger than €10.
  • By bank card
  • With your Smartphone or Smartwatch

If you are planning a same-day return trip over a distance of 20 kilometres or more, you can get a round-trip ticket. This is 10% cheaper than buying 2 single tickets.

At ticket outlets

If you intend to use the bus a lot, you may want to consider purchasing a “ten+” travel card. The ten+ cards can be obtained at airport ticket machines, Titsa bus station Information Centres and kiosks across the island. There are two options:

  • A one-day travel card gives you unlimited bus travel for one day at the cost of € 10.
  • A seven-day travel card, which costs  € 50, allows you to use the bus as much as you want for a whole week.  

Are the buses wheelchair accessible?

Some, but not all buses in Tenerife are wheelchair accessible. The buses that are adapted for wheelchair access can accommodate a chair with the maximum dimensions of 750 mm in width and 1300 mm in length and a maximum weight of 300kg (this includes the weight of the user).

Travelling on the bus with children

Do children need to pay on the bus?

Children of 4 years and under can travel on the bus free of charge if they sit on the lap of the accompanying adult.

Can I travel on the bus with a pushchair?

You can travel with an unfolded pushchair on those buses that have a space for standing passengers unless this space is already occupied by a wheelchair.

Travelling on the bus with luggage or bycicles

How much luggage can I take on the bus?

Some of the buses have luggage compartments, which allow for easy stowage of your luggage. On buses without a luggage compartment, you are usually permitted to carry with you a bag /suitcase with a maximum size of 100 x 60 x 25cm.

Can I travel on the bus with my bycicle?

You can bring your bike if the bus has a luggage compartment. You will be allowed to board the bus with a folding bicycle if the bus has a wheelchair space, provided that the space is not occupied by a wheelchair user.

Travelling on the bus with pets

Can I bring my pet on the bus?

You can board the bus with a pet if this is contained in a carry cage no larger than 60 x 35 x 35 cm and the pet does not weigh more than 10kg.

Are dogs allowed on the bus?

You will not be permitted to board the bus with a pet that is not in a carrier with the exception of guide dogs.

Can I Get to My Holiday Resort by Bus?

There is a good bus service from outside the main arrivals hall at Tenerife South Airport to all the major holiday resorts. For more information, please also see our page Airport Bus Tenerife South.

Buses run regularly from the resorts in the south of the island all the way up to the north of the island.
